Internal Dialogue Quiz

Self-Talk Reflection

Human beings engage in an ongoing internal dialogue that influences how we interpret our experiences, relate to ourselves, and respond to the world around us. Research suggests that while the amount and nature of self-talk vary considerably between individuals, our internal conversations play an important role in shaping our thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and relationships.

Psychological research also indicates that humans have a natural tendency to give greater weight to negative experiences and information than positive ones – a phenomenon known as ‘negativity bias’. As a result, self-critical or limiting internal messages can sometimes become more influential than those which support and encourage.

The exercise below is a tool designed to help you explore the nature of your self-talk and consider the extent to which it may be influencing your personal wellbeing, professional effectiveness, relationships, and sense of fulfilment. By becoming more aware of our internal dialogue, we can begin to recognise patterns that support our growth and those that may be holding us back.
