Gut Feel & Intuition – Real Deep dive

We all get them, and in different forms. Where do these traits come from? How are they generated? How reliable are they? Can we depend on them? Could they form a key defence in a murder trial? Well, the thing is, despite them resulting from possibly a high level of non-conscious effort, these feelings or vibes or mental instincts are still all our own. Even though we have a strong captain of our subconscious, our conscious thoughts are our commander and chief.

Self-Image & Ego – Real Deep Dive

Ego and self-esteem are understood to hover somewhere between our conscious-Self and our subconscious. A point common with effort and processes toward new goals and desirable outcomes, is in keeping our feet on the ground and giving ourselves a ‘tune-up’ if our head gets too big. These human characteristics are enthralling and fascinating and play an important role in modern (positive) psychology – and especially when working with affirmations.

Affirmations – Real Deep Dive

The word itself tends to emotionally polarise people like no other. Generally, it creates either a feeling of positive energy or one of throw me right now off the nearest cliff. For the latter, this often hails from a previous poor experience or deep belief – both usually either not being suitable for the individual (and they really don’t work for some people) or them being jammed down ones throat from others insisting they have all the answers – who themselves really have no idea what they are doing, and themselves then later failing with their own goal aspirations. Most who have used them well feel a quiet reminder of a good experience – usually as a modest internal knowing of how they made them work for themselves.

Dwell Time – Real Deep Dive

A theme consistently emerges in producing great artistic results. Like any good bottle of wine – quality ingredients are blended, bottled, then time pretty much does the rest. It turns out it’s not just allowing time, but it’s about creating dwell-time, (a term which you’ll notice popping up frequently) which indicates a deliberately created and managed pause before acting on or reacting to matters which do not immediately require an urgent response.

Resilience – Real Deep Dive

Let’s really get our heads around what is resilience, and why it has become linked as a convenient association for other emerging trends, such as things like ‘generational entitlement’.

Resilience at its most basic level comes down to an ability to perform throughout life while facing and dealing with fear, hardship and setbacks. Included here is the use of fortitude (displaying courage through pain in adversity), endurance (capable of weathering difficult conditions), and durability (able to withstand wear, pressure, or damage).

Internal Dialogue – Real Deep Dive

We can slant our self-chatter negatively, positively, or anywhere in between. Most of us aren’t even aware when we do it, and less so again of the influence over time. Even singing associative phrases forms part of our internal dialogue. Further, there is mounting evidence to suggest that matters on which we focus can and do become our reality. Undertaking a self-audit here can simply involve asking this question: ‘Am I happy to accept this as being my reality?’ It’s really that simple.

Positivity & Confidence – Real Deep Dive

Confidence and positivity are related, but they are not the same. Confidence is influenced by positivity, not the other way around. One could be confident they will fail at a task – whether the outcome is a positive or negative thing. Or, one could be positive toward a good outcome, but not confident in that stance. Further differences are also interesting to consider.

Our Subconscious – Real Deep Dive

Do we over rely on what we currently think we know, or thought we knew? Many consider that us humans would do well to learn more about opening-up, to opening-up!

While scrappy debate is possible on many aspects of our subconscious it’s helpful to frame the whole thing as being the ‘dominant force and influence on all non-conscious inputs through our entire existence’.
