Resilience

A hot topic today and one likely to be a part of a parent teacher or school committee meeting. We are repeatedly told the youth of today have low resilience. Do they? It’s a deep and contentious subject, having multiple aspects and the responsibility for which is not deserved of being laid at the feet of teachers, kids, or their parents. Many contend it’s all part of a malaise in society that needs to be better addressed and managed moving forward. Overcoming limiting beliefs is also all part of the function. Some argue these are virtuous rights of its society to deem what is and isn’t appropriate and worthy for present lifestyles and climate. For example, who’s to say that 40 years ago skills to fix a bike tyre puncture (though if we didn’t, we couldn’t get to school!) is a skill today that needs attention?

Either way, society has a funny way of determining what eventually gets massaged and what plays out, and much more productively than should any current government or authority serve new laws surrounding the matter. Establishing where an individual sits on a resilience scale is not that difficult, and also quite powerful and empowering. This project has tools developed for exactly this. Imagine turning up to the next job interview with a piece of paper that verifies you have a high resilience level! It’s not only possible, but also nearly here. Additionally, there are steps that guide through the results, and aim to set options and ideas as groundwork for making improvement, and/or guidance to professional advice and counsel. We can build strength, one step at a time, and help enhance our built-in forcefield, or help gain control amidst manipulation, help put gas-lighters out for good, and help unravel the 'target syndrome'.

She’ll Be Right (mate)!

If we’re to believe the Aussies (and why wouldn’t we) this phrase is a Kiwi thing. Regardless of its source, debate has raged on its merits. Is it a supportive statement toward a positive future and assumed outcomes in times of trouble? Could it be a worthwhile steer-along to support…

Resilience – Real Deep Dive

Let’s really get our heads around what is resilience, and why it has become linked as a convenient association for other emerging trends, such as things like ‘generational entitlement’.

Resilience at its most basic level comes down to an ability to perform throughout life while facing and dealing with fear, hardship and setbacks. Included here is the use of fortitude (displaying courage through pain in adversity), endurance (capable of weathering difficult conditions), and durability (able to withstand wear, pressure, or damage).
